Very good point. The whole "vibecession" thesis also argues that poor and working-class people have to have the knowledge of their own material experiences mediated through a professional class, which is just nonsensical at best and vile at worst.

The "Vibesession" is easier to understand than that. The Economy has been optimized for metrics that don't affect normal people anymore, if they ever did. So you get good numbers out of a shit sandwich.

I still do believe there is at least an unconscious effort to undermine the political awareness and agency of the working class and the poor, though.

Right, the metrics shifted seriously in the late 1970s and 1980s away from quality of life measurements.
