Between this and the Noah Kahan concert last month, we are one instance away from "concert fan shits themselves" becoming a trend. Where will it happen next? I'm looking at you, Lollapalooza (cc @imleor.bsky.social).

Heavy metal fans ‘vomiting and crying’ as concertgoer poops in moshpitA Saturday night gig in New Zealand took an unexpected turn when a concert goer who defecated in the middle of a packed moshpit left concertgoers disgusted, forcing the band to speak outwww.irishstar.com

Follow more cultural critics! We're still around yakking about our areas of expertise, just with not so many followers, and it beats litigating Stancil or whatever for the umpteenth time.

*whispers* you know we can do this cultural debate about art thing all the time, right? Websites and news organizations used to have culture critics on staff whose entire job was writing about books, movies, and TV. People read them and then discussed them. We have the technology to do this again.

Now that David Jonsson has been announced as the new Black Panther, I highly recommend you watch Wasteman, a prison thriller starring Jonsson that's newly available to stream on MUBI. Tough, provocative, oddly moving. Here's what I wrote about it for @spectrumculture.bsky.social a few months ago.

Wasteman - Spectrum CultureWasteman is an old-fashioned prison thriller that serves as a showcase for actor David Jonsson, who plays a young convict whose biggest obstacle to freedom sleeps right next to him.spectrumculture.com

Odyssey translator Emily Wilson thinks the Nolan film "never shows the POV of [Odysseus'] victims," which is wrong. Just because someone is a brilliant translator/academic does not necessarily mean they're also a sharp arts critic. And as others pointed out, the Circe scene also centers victims.

I think Wilson is factually incorrect. Not only does the film portray Sinon as one of Odysseus' victims, the scene where you get his POV is the moral lynchpin of the movie, and you can make the case Zendaya's character is a manifestation of his all his Trojan victims.
