The Iliad is simultaneously so brilliant and so brutally horrific that I've yet to sum up the determination for The Odyssey.

Confession time: apart from a bowdlerise kids' version, I've never read The Odyssey. A few years ago, inspired by reading an interview about the making of The Return plus listening to Liz Fraser singing Song To A Siren, I thought I ought to. But then I thought I ought to read The Iliad first.

Of course "Ludovic" is the Anglo-Scots version of "Louis," so if you do that slightly old-fashioned thing of translating foreign rulers' names into English (Peter the Great, Henry the Navigator, Charles V of Spain) you can call about half of all French kings Ludovic XIV or whatever.

So, there’s a lot of this sort of stuff on my feed today, to the extent that I think everyone needs to keep a bit of perspective, but... …whatever the respective merits of Labour, the Green Party and the Lib Dems, the last of those three has been very steady in the polls for two years now...

A lot of replies picking up on the flaws and weaknesses of Nazism, but I think it’s more to Stephen’s point that so many of them were just barking.

Not wanting to be a dick about autocorrect errors, but there ought to be a word for when they come up with something cool, because I really like the idea of "fiending" time. "What a great weekend. Fiended it all the way through to Sunday night."
