i think this is probably why bioshock 2 emotionally resonated with me most, pre-transition, even though it's gameplay style was the most heavy and cumbersome of the three. repression really does feel like suffocating in a diving suit at the bottom of the ocean, only escapable through womanhood

noticing recent horror directors (obsession, together, etc) undercutting otherwise great climactic narrative moments with these little cop-out jokes to break a tension they're presumably insecure will land, as if sabotaging them is better than aiming for sincerity and missing. stop it, you cowards!

thinking more about this, Bioshock 2 allows you to look through the eyes of the little sisters and discover that they see the world as a pristine utopia where colours and sounds are more vibrant, flowers and butterflies everywhere, into which flashes of real world masculine sexual urges intrude

the thing about bioshock infinite+dlc for me is that yes it is narratively bad, but it’s also probably the first game my repressed transgender ass played that let me look out the eyes of a woman. for all its many many MANY flaws, i cannot bring myself to hate it

finally watched Backrooms, which while enjoyable unfortunately pales in comparison to the undefeated heavyweight champion original liminal horror granddaddy of them all, by which of course i mean The Stanley Parable
