Seattle, stopover for the 2026 Intertribal Canoe Journey: Paddle to Nisqually Medicine Creek Potlatch. 80-over 100 ocean-going cedar canoes arrived from across the PNW: Alaska, BC & the Olympic Peninsula. As a Native Hawaiian, it was an honor to witness a sacred Native American living ceremony.

I am not Indigenous but I have always found myself getting very emotional whenever I witness the ceremonies, dances, drumming and words of the Chiefs. Wisdom and spirit. What a sight that must have been, very stirring.

The dates for this great event are: July 31st to August 5th, 2026. Key Route Stops: Canoes journeyed through the Salish Sea, stopping at locations including Birch Bay (welcomed by the Nooksack), Suquamish, and Alki Beach in West Seattle.

We saw a portion of the Queen Liliuokalani Outrigger race on the Big Island during one visit and knowing the race honors her birthday made the event even more moving for me. Respect for your participation in this event. 🫶🏼🌺
