I mean it's a dumb rule. It is ridiculous that a penalty that already causes a team to have to play a man down in one game, eliminates that player for the next, unless it was flagrant. Sports leagues should want teams to be fielding their best players, especially in large tournaments like this.

I’m so glad you said this. Not one bit of the foul committed falls under the FIFA red card rules. None of it. It never should have been a red card and the referee who called it has been investigated previously for fixing matches. Thanks for saying that!

Oh look, another armchair referee. 🤣 Every team that has ever played in a football match has been subjected to dubious, or just flat out wrong, refereeing decisions. They don’t like them, but they accept that it’s not going to change and move on. This is cheating by the USA.

You don’t know what you’re talking about. There have been multiple red cards overturned in the World Cup and qualifying. Most recently a few months ago with Ronaldo. Why weren’t you crying about it then? That helped get Portugal into the World Cup over another country.

By that logic does it not matter that the video assistant referee violated the rules by reviewing the Balogun foul in slow motion and with still photos, which were then used to upgrade from “no foul” to “red card and one game suspension”? Which rule breaking matters more? They’re in conflict here.

Show me the rule that you think was broken, because reviewing post action plays in slow motion is the LITERAL job of the VAR. The exact same VAR got an English player sent off, and they’re not trying to get the king to reverse the decision, because they respect the rules of the game.

Bottom line is no one is well-served by this. FIFA need a legitimate appeals process. And the door to this was opened by suspending match bans on four other players that normally would have seen them miss group stage matches.

I’m not in disagreement that an appeals process could be useful, but trying to “fix that in the middle of the biggest sporting tournament in the world because you don’t like the result, and undermining every other decision that has gone before, and will come after, is cheating.
