Perhaps the cat food was avoided as it was relatively not as good considering all the rare plunder available. We used to have neighbors that fed their cats outside and the raccoons frequented their bowls.

Cat food is not good for raccoons since it's got ingredients not good for them. Raccoons are more like dogs. Doesn't stop them if they're hungry, but if they felt bad after they might avoid especially if there is a bounty of PB and donuts. 😀

I mean my cat has access to super high quality cat food, yet still prefers to try to eat dry rolled oats, uncooked pasta, and literal garbage (he will steal the garbage bags out of smaller trash cans and run across the house with them). So clearly cat food must just not be very exciting! 😅
