The companies are wildly profitable, this is about using AI or making way for H1 Visa employees to decrease costs and increase margins a bit more - they only care about the stock price and “shareholder value.

I know layoff is the correct term, but it’s such a whitewash. If you’re being layed off, you’re being fired. You don’t work there anymore or ever again.

Ah, I realize what you mean, in the old days a layoff meant you might be called back some weeks later and often you were. Today a layoff means you’re not going to work there again. People tend to say they were “let go“ now, which means they were not fired for cause but their job was eliminated.

Ever again? I was laid off three times in my career and every time I got a better job a few months later. Being fired mean it’s for cause, that you did something wrong. Being laid off means the company eliminated your job, not that you did something wrong.
