Really ain't a big deal. Actually has scientific value to it and no, it's not "out of control" as you might think It's just a dead stage from a mission last year that worked perfectly

After polluting Earth and space, the Moon now.

Ответ для Joe Jinis 🗽

Wait until you find out how much stuff NASA and other space agencies shot towards the moon by accident. Or on purpose.

Ответ для yub

I know, but whataboutism isn't relevant.

Ответ для Joe Jinis 🗽

You're missing the point. For deep space missions, upper stages are often left in an intentional graveyard orbit that potentially intersects the moon. It’s safer than leaving it closer to Earth. And the impact to the moon can yield valuable science, which is why they've done it on purpose before.

SpaceX is a listed company, and has shareholders, (owners), who can be sued, perhaps they should be a bit more careful with their space junk. I bet this piece of rocket wasn't mentioned in the listing prospectus. @brokenbanker.bsky.social @rosamundi.bsky.social @ft.com.web.brid.gy #spaceX

This was them being careful. They followed standard procedures for any launcher for a mission like this

BSF 🐀🇬🇧

Very misleading headline and article It's not "out of control" as in spiralling after a malfunction. It launched two lunar landers for NASA last year then went into a graveyard orbit (as standard for any rocket on a mission like this...besides INTENTIONALLY hitting the moon)

Bravo!

Ответ для Nico Ordozgoiti

Might as well do this properly.

Ответ для Nico Ordozgoiti

Can you put his face in it?

Ответ для Nico Ordozgoiti

And puts out the man's eye.

Ответ для Nico Ordozgoiti

Exactly. You best me to it.

Look, I hate the guy too but it's kinda weird that a lot of people posting about this were hoping the moon would be noticeably damaged.

People are fucking crazy nowadays bro Especially on here

Musk needs to be held accountable and made an example of. This must not be accepted.

"I must go to the moon and retrieve my failed rocket now!" 🤣

SpaceX, what a great stock investment...🤣

Charge Elon with a bill for littering.

It's hardly breaking news, we were told it was going to happen in advance

Ответ для LeftPeggers 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🇵🇸

There will be no mess chief It's a hyper velocity impact. The rocket will literally be turned to gas from the energy it's hitting and the moons will simply get another small crater

There won’t be. It will have gotten vapourised

damn litterbugs

Some of the waste ends up on the Moon, the rest on the ocean floor...

Ответ для world-of-peace

Where do you think spent boosters from other rockets go? Most of which are not being developed for full reusability.

Ответ для yub

The point was the thematic link to the stock, not determining what competitors are up to in heaven...

Ответ для world-of-peace

I see, poetic. Although it still doesn't make sense when SpaceX is one of the few spaceflight companies actively reducing waste materials.

He's going to try and claim that site as his own property, isn't he?

Sounds just like Musk!

Was it REALLY an out of control SpaceX rocket, or out of control SpaceX CEO??

If as the 1967 treaty states we all own the moon, can we collectively sue Musk for damaging our property. I think 300 billion in damages would be fair.

Ответ для John

Make it an even trillion.

Ответ для John

No, you can't

Hit the moon in the eye. With a big rocket that can’t fly. That’s a moron. Elon that’s a moron.

Is the Moon okay?

😂

das habe ich auch gedacht 😄

Love the irony that the crash site is close to Einsteins crater.

Tried to read the article through the plethora of annoying, invasive ads, gave up half way through.

Please confirm that this was one of Musks manned space flights and he’s “tragically” a victim

Was Musk on it? And if not, why not?

A great example of a perfectly correct but completely misleading headline. It's actually the discarded upper stage of an old SpaceX rocket that delivered a couple of moon lander projects to lunar orbit early last year.

Ответ для Malcolm Watson

That's journalism for ya

Private space agencies are such a joke, and SpaceX is truly vile. Raking in billions of government funding and stock value to rain debris down on people and fill our night sky with garbage. NASA put men on the moon after only a decade. Elon's had twice that and just blows shit up on taxpayer funds.

My wife once drunkenly crashed her bicycle into the side of a hospital. We’ve all been there.

whishing elon was on it.....

SpaceX rocket is supposed to land back on Earth, but … crashes into the moon instead? That seems a bit far off target.

Ответ для cbear42

It wasn't supposed to land; it was supposed to crash. Just into the Earth instead of the Moon.

Ответ для cbear42

Falcon 9 second stages are not designed to land on Earth. For a mission like this, they can't. Same with all rockets of its class The best they can do is put it in a graveyard orbit so it doesn't pose a risk to operational satellites...which they did

Has this jerk EVER had an idea he didn't steal from somebody else?

Dear god, don't wake the moon.

Ответ для all-a-mort

lolll

If only the Lumiere Brothers could see this.

That dickhead is going to kill us all.

Lunar Impacts are a common thing. Even NASA has done specific crash into the moon missions like LCROSS. The issue is space debris in cislunar space. It's almost like we need a vacuum for the vacuum lol en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LCROSS

That’s how space babies are made

Hands down the worst character in "The Adventures of Baron von Munchausen."
