Sometimes the brain grows unevenly- a child at 14 might just be delayed …. And could get exams later on - some bright children make engineers but only if they have a basics in materials early on- I was a DT teacher and my dad trained mechanics in a large train factory ….

Others just have a practical, more than a conceptual anchor to their learning style. Show them a diagram first and they struggle to understand the engine, show them the engine working first and they understand the diagram.

Yes, and the idea that different learning styles need to be separated into technical and Academic is silly! I learn by doing and from applied examples, I have both "academic" and "vocational" qualifications, I absolutely could not have done the latter without the former

Me too - I often think about academic ideas by forming 3D models …… academia is so often and control and designing an outcome based on what spoke want others to be …. And not on how the brain connects, matures or works
