Midnight news? An essential bookend to the day that surely can’t cost much. A competent producer could put it together, and does on some commercial stations. Savage cut.

BBC One will no longer air Sunday morning edition of BBC Breakfast from September. BBC News channel will air instead 5 Live Weekend Breakfast will become a two-hour programme from April Newsnight to move to peak time on Fridays "building on the success of its refreshed format"

Ответ для Scott Bryan

Today programme will have a roster of four permanent presenters rather than five and single anchor on Saturdays. BBC to propose merging production teams of Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg and Newsnight. This won’t change the format of the existing shows.

Ответ для Scott Bryan

Newsnight withut the expert filmed reports that it used to have is now just a news chat-show. 'Refreshed format' 🤪.

Wouldn't it be nice if we had a Culture Secretary to stand up for the principal tenets of the BBC? Shame they abolished that role.

New DG not hanging around?

Have they considered maybe saving a bit of money by doing things like not having some crazy number like 12 different people alternating presenting the weather on BBC Breakfast rather than a lot of cancellations?

🤦‍♂️

Why doesn't the BBC just charge anyone outside the UK for full access to iplayer like any other streaming service? Instead of cuts, they could grow income.

Not Cross incontinence - it's such a great programme.

Not Crossing Continents! 😞

I'll miss Crossing Continents. Sideways should be binned along with it's godawful presenter.

Not enough shows on R4 branded based on the presenter’s name

Gutted. The World Tonight. Just such a bad direction BBC continues to take - more dumbing down, binning the intelligent informed material that only the BBC do. Just incredibly sad.

I greatly enjoy Crossing Continents in particular

So we lose the excellent Crossing Continents and the Midnight News, but keep Uncanny? Inform, educate, entertain?

Ответ для Dr Margaret Prior

Yup, it seems like all the podcast-sounding dross, true crime and nonsense will continue.

V sad about midnight news.

You’ve forgotten the N.

Surely the world must be running out of news bulletin names. News Now! This Afternoon! Ten Past Two's News! Datum: Earth! Fresh Fact Folio! Happenance! 🙄

Advertising on BBC R1 and R2, no reason not to carry advertising.

Ответ для JMcN

Destroys the advertising funding model of commercial stations

As long as every shīt middle/upper class comedian gets their radio 4 show as their birthright that’s all I care about.

Once Radio 4 has network filler it’s doomed.

I dread to think.

Is this just too blindingly obvious to the BBC men in suits? bsky.app/profile/did:...

If the BBC want to save money by cutting news broadcasts may I suggest they just stop the hourly news slots on their music channels? If we want to hear the news we can tune into R4 to listen to Nick Robinson or Amol Rajan droning on. 🤨 news.sky.com/story/bbc-to...

Completely unsurprising. I think they're pivoting to some day amalgamating 5Live and R4 and putting it on the news bit of the BBC Sounds app. Adam Fleming will be fine. They're going all in on him, Spring and Mason.

Won’t miss The Law Show (so dumbed down) but axing Crossing Continents is a travesty

Ответ для Caro McAdam

Axing 'Crossing Continents' is criminal. #BBC should be doing everything they can to support quality journalism.

Why can't we just cut Sundays? Nothing ever good is on a Sunday.

Ответ для Callum

I still listen to #BroadcastingHouse but often wonder why I bother - hit a new nadir recently when the tedious 'slow radio' slot was a recording of someone's dogs noisily slobberring through their dinner. 🤢

Yer what??

Ответ для Alex J-W

Crossing continents wow

Yet Kuenssberg survives?

Ответ для Colin K

Kuensberg is an essential NPC and always survives

Presenters like LK are the main cause of Cancelled Licence Fees - no TV & no regrets!

No! Not The World Tonight! And they keep The Moral Maze?

Ответ для Steve C

So much this

No I love midnight news!

Bet they are keeping The Moral Maze

Cutting more of the best programmes, but I bet The Archers will still be on every 5 minutes.

200 roles lost. How many are top earners?

Ответ для Keith Moran

Probably zero! A friend’s husband was unceremoniously dumped from the World Service 2 years ago.

Oooooh me me pick me! I'll "guillotine" the bbc and burn the remains to the ground! Hell, I'd say the bbc is worth more in a fire sale than it is as a broadcaster! So many ideas, so little time! Oh oh could save so much money by throwing the bbc's ELT in prison! SO MANY IDEAS! Sub me in, coach!

How sad.

aw moneybox live 🙄

No more rebrandings would be a good idea. Namby Pamby Nairn: we’ve changed BBC1 to BBC One, in 5 years we’ll suggest changing it to BBC one, and in ten years to bbc ONE. Ker-ching!

Ответ для Matt Beany

BBC I. BBC II. BBC III. BBC IV. BBC Radio VI Music.

That’s incredibly frustrating re Money Box Live and The World Tonight. Fund the BBC properly and keep these positive shows.

Shooting us all in the foot. These cuts are dreadful in this day and age.

Anti-Social is no loss, certainly. May as well call it "Anti-trans" and be done with it. But stuff like Money Box Live and the Law Show are surely great examples of what the BBC should be doing. Pity they didn't can Today, too, frankly.

Ответ для Nigel Whitfield

I'd have binned The Moral Maze, too. Chuck it back out the Overton Window it's done so much to shift.

Crossing Continents will be replaced by a new show featuring vox pops from outside a boarded up charity shop on Barnsley high street an a wet Tuesday lunchtime (because that's where all the Beeb's vox pops seem to be). It will be called "Cross Incontinents".

Replacing them with Reform UK Tonight, Midnight Restore News, Fascism Live, The Lawless Show and Crossing Nigel's Palm next year.

Let's fill the airwaves and tv schedules with more dross, repeats and "simulcasts" and still be surprised when people stop watching, listening and start cancelling their licence.

Money Box? 😬

Enshittification.

No! Not Cross in Continents surely?

The Newshour/World Tonight was proposed before, and rejected because of their very different news priorities. The end of Crossing Continents leaves Radio 4 with no scheduled foreign affairs outlet other than From Our Own Correspondent, which is a collection of 'talks', not on-the-ground reporting.

Reminder of the mess that BBC World TV has become, which (as I realised recently in Pakistan) is mostly the same as the very domestic UK news channel, even when there are competing (or even bigger) global stories.

For someone who works nights this is a bit devastating :(((

Couldn't they just stop making so many podcasts or buying things in you can get elsewhere?

Ответ для Lerrup

They’re stopping making Miss Me with Miquita Oliver and Jordan Stephens. The podcast will continue in a commercial format outside of BBC instead. I wonder if other BBC podcasts will follow?

Ответ для Lerrup

When I heard about 400 hours of audio cuts, this was where I thought it would be.

And don’t forget on June 26th @ midnight GMT, over 100 yrs since BBC Radio first started on Long Wave for the whole UK and beyond closes down. Three Radio 4 Transmitters (not operated by the BBC now) at Droitwich, Burghead & Westerglen in Scotland finish after their 90 yrs of providing basic Radio.

Ответ для justsailingby

I used to like getting LW Radio 4 when in France.

But they’re persevering with absolute crap like Mrs Brown’s Boys, and Eastenders!

good riddance to antisocial. pisses me off every time i see that transphobic "culture war" bs in the schedule

Newsnight could very easily be a podcast. Do we need to see talking heads on a sofa?

Sad news to lose some great content and, as so often, the cuts that look like they would be logical money savers aren't being made. Why not get rid of some of the expensive people? That said, I will be VERY glad to see the back of Antisocial.

Cut BBC News 24 already. Why does it even exist?

Why don't they do something good and axe You and Yours?

Ответ для David Brunt

This could be a good thread. I’d nominate Today and PM.

I imagine those with incontinence will now have even more reason to be cross.

One Show should be banned. It is awful. Too many repeats across the numerous channels. Maybe there are too many channels? As for Parliament... urghh.

If they could get the people who are watching but aren't paying to pay, that would be £1.7bn right there which would mean almost no cuts needed. Someone needs to sort that out.
