US and UK friends, I'm curious: What books were part of your required reading for highschool literature class? Which of them do you remember loving, and which did you loathe?
Lord of the Flies showed up on my 7th, 8th, and 9th grade required reading lists. I hated the book the first time I read it so I never read it more than once.
Various John Steinbeck showed up and I absolutely love Steinbeck. Everyone reads Of Mice and Men, which is nice and short, but The Grapes of Wrath was one of my favorite books for many years. Read it in middle school.
There were many books other people were required to read that I never had on my lists, which I always thought was odd on the Honors/Advanced/AP Lit classes.
