Heinlein, Orson Scott Card, Neal Stephenson - all conservative. You can read a lot of books incorrectly to make them right-wing, though. See: Brave New World, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (incidentally, I personally don't love Philip K Dick, but that has to do more with how he writes women)

I liked some of his books before I found out about his work with the GWB administration. Super disappointing and kinda horrifying to learn about

Yeah, I'm sure I've read Ringworld, at least. Won't be rereading that.

Lol, I remember playing Halo in college and telling my friends "this is just a ripoff of Ringworld", but yeah another book that I doubt would hold up as an adult. I also remember my Dad and I really liking "The Mote In God's Eye" a lot, which Niven wrote with Card. So, doubly problematic authors...

Wait, got that wrong. "Mote in Gods Eye" was Niven and Pournelle. I was reading all three of those guys around the same time and got them confused.

Still a matter of problematic authors, though - Pournelle was a racist religious bigot who thought we all longed for an imperial government.

Yeah, as a kid I basically read almost everything Niven wrote and loved it. To discover he's a conservative asshole is disappointing, but also makes me feel better over not having read anything of his in the last 30+ years.

And that is why Niven is on my shitlist, and I do not buy any of his books for giveaways. So is Pournelle, just on general principles.
