This just reads as total employer incompetence. Either he: 1. Scammed them into believing he was far more capable than he was. 2. Someone was using him to tick a diversity box. Either way literally everybody comes out looking shit and now racists have extra fodder, great job all around.

A fantasy author to whom facts matter less than the narrative arc. Perhaps this works in creative writers but conflicts with academic rigor. In fact there appears to be none. The set up as a secondary figure to Daedalus who did not heed cautions or common sense suggests a fundamental flaw.
