any time you get an exploited workforce, especially one being targeted by the government so they are extra vulnerable to the vagaries of their employers, one of the first things that vanishes is ready access to sanitary facilities

this is not a huge secret. this is not something groundbreaking or revolutionary that i am saying. you’ve all heard about delivery drivers pissing in bottles. of course they’re shitting in fields and *it is not their fault*

you’ve got an employer paying them pennies on the hour and the nearest toilet is four miles away and might not have working plumbing, tf do you EXPECT

it just really grinds my gears to see reporting like “huh, we have no idea how this is happening!” No we have very precise knowledge of exactly how it’s happening, but if you said that, then you might have to fix it and the ruling class that owns the media does not want that

(some people pointing out that feces would only contaminate the closest plants- yes, until it gets into the irrigation system. you have foulage close to the start of the loop, bam, entire crop)

Even if all the employees had all the rights that garden variety office workers have (or perhaps, had) the whole enforcement system takes so long you'll die of old age before some employer is forced to comply with any damned thing. Assuming you can afford a lawyer.

That wouldn't be an issue if they properly treated the water, but again . . . So, we have a massive source of cross-contamination after a massive source of contamination.

I work in construction and the law is *extremely* prescriptive about what washing and toilet facilities you have to have under the CDM regs because otherwise contractors just don't bother.
