Authoritarian regimes often attack sociology. We're seeing this in US, too. Why? It's a tiny field that, in US, rarely drives public opinion or policy. Most of it is empirical. Much uses data & methods similar to econ, psych, or poli sci. It sometimes seeds these fields w/ ideas & methods. 1/2
