The Tories replaced the EUs CE mark with the UKCA - a quality mark that is not recognised in the EU. As a result, anyone wanting to export goods into the EU from the UK, will soon need to pay for two different quality marks if they want to sell in the EU & UK. Nice. #BrexitReality

Does the UK still recognise the CE mark? If so then manufacturers only need to apply for that, thus making the UKCA redundant.

Partly. If the product confirms to a UK standard that is still the EU standard, then CE is accepted If UK has diverged & created a standard that differs from EU, the product must be certified UKCA (Nb: it may ALSO comply with EU standard & be CE certified, but that doesn’t count - must also be UKCA)

So much packaging already carry’s both logos, same for EU companies that want to sell in the UK as well as EU. After the initial design (instead of old kite mark) it is probably now one of the least problematic changes/costs.

The cost isn’t really in the packaging, it’s in the need to gain dual certification. Completely ridiculous additional cost to doing business caused by Brexit. Also resulted in enormous loss of business to UK certification bodies - no longer able to CE certify anything as NoBo. Business lost to EU.

Sure Brexit costs the UK economy billions each year but small businesses may be put off but large businesses sell all over the world and already employed people just to do this sort of paperwork. The standards are the same

Standards are not always the same though - that was the point of Brexit (‘we make our own rules & diverge and in some cases we have). Even when the standards are the same, still results in additional costs for the certification (it’s not just ‘in house paperwork’).

You’re right that larger businesses can swallow it better than small businesses - but that in itself also exposes the shame of Brexit. Favours the ‘haves’ (large business) at the expense of the ‘have nots’ (small business).
