As Mitch isn’t voting or chairing his committees why do so many dems, on social media, want to force the GOP to replace an inactive senator with an active one or for the Governor to do something stupid, performative or illegal which achieves nothing except possibly getting him impeached?

Granted, it’d be bound to ultimately fail. Yet, a declaration to fill the seat due to Mitch’s unfitness to serve atm could trigger McConnell/staff to challenge it. Beshear could announce he’ll happily stop proceedings as soon as Mitch is seen alive, in person, by multiple people, on live cameras.

It is incredibly fascinating for outside observers to watch the delicate balancing act the governor is performing to avoid having to visit the ailing senator. Could he actually be turned away at the sickroom door? What would the real consequences be if he were a) in a coma or b) actually dead?

That’s not the point. The point is to force some action, not to debate the protocols of the Kentucky legislature. That’s what McConnell would have done, fcuk the rules. And is he even drawing breath? 🙄

Sure, but keeping this issue in the news is objectively a good thing. “Republicans will keep a dead guy in the seat rather than respect the voters” is a great attack line, even if it’s not completely true

the point is to force the gop hand in ky. they took that power away from the gov right before he was seated and that is against their own state constitution. if he appoints it forces the gop to act ie show us the corpse or go to court where the gop will lose and power to the gov will be reinstated
