Too many of us never get to release our hater energy so freely, which is why I thoroughly enjoyed Emily Wilson’s review of “The Odyssey” for she holds nothing back the way only someone not caring if she’d publish another review can.

Wilson is, unsurprisingly, a connoisseur of adaptations of “The Odyssey.” I think folks who quibble with the details within her take down of Nolan’s film misses her larger point: that spectacle catering to the mainstream comes at the expense of, ironically, what an auteur’s vision should offer.

You can disagree with her individual points about why she found Nolan’s adaptation to be a series of missed opportunities to be more daring, more interesting, more clever. But how many of us can say we didn’t feel this exact way about some bloated big budget show/movie or another in recent memory?

Perfect analogy: hater energy Me? Movies and popcorn 🍿 I don't derive any meaning of life from movies. I live life for that. When I'm in an IMAX theater? I just want to be entertained.

That's cool, same here. But personally, only for things that actually matter. Movies? Nah. Popcorn 🍿+ soda. I either enjoy it or not. I did. To each his/her own.
