Forgive me if this is getting repetitive, but this is the first time creating sankey diagrams. Here’s latest take showing energy flows in my 100yo house in Suffolk UK with heat pump, 14kW east west PV array, 13kWh battery & EV. Net cost of electricity for month was £44. Mean temp for month was 8°C.

Interesting. Is the heat pump load pure movement, or does it have some resistive heating buried in it?

The heat provided by a heat pump is a combination of the electrical power used drive the compressor and the energy harvested from the environment. There is no pure resistive heating element in a modern heat pump install.

Well, I suppose that might depend on a particular meaning of “modern,” but there were still quite a few available in North America recently. (Certainly a big part of that is allaying customer’s fears, in my opinion. Heat pumps have improved faster than their reputation in some markets.)

By modern I mean one using the modern R32 and R290 refrigerants, because these have produce water hot enough to not need a resistive heater to pasteurise the hot cylinder. Satisfaction with heat pumps is high in Europe. www.nesta.org.uk/report/heat-....
