Moffat setting up a big epic finale, then foregoing it in favor of an intimate character study deconstructing Clara and The Doctor’s relationship? We used to be so well fed.
Anyway the long version is she suffers from Moffats belief that a woman can only be interesting if she's a mystery to be solved and the combination of the chemistry with Capaldi and actually being allowed to have a personality that she manages to break out into being a worthwhile character.
You’re not wrong! Though I personally think the Impossible Girl shit is both sporadically charming due to her chemistry with Smith and also kind of a necessary thematic/meta text precursor to where they eventually take her.
The Danny Pink stuff also sucks but that's due to him sucking, not her. And hell, the fact that she's able to be discussed like this makes her far more of an interesting character than all the Fam of 13
Danny is a nothing presence but it does enable Clara’s full tilt into “fuck it” so I can never be too mad about him.
And yes, I had until this exact moment, forgotten there was an era between Moffat’s end and RTD’s return.
