The Munich S-Bahn, an original #BuildTheTunnel system, was constructed as a rapid deployment ahead of hosting the Olympics, converting Munich’s commuter-style network into thru-running regional rail. Initially approved in 1965, Munich won their Olympic bid a year later and the S-Bahn opened in 1972.
