The "sameness" of rocks is the basis for correlation, modern/ancient analogs, and geologic mapping. The differences are the bases for the deep time history of the earth, rocky planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and meteorites, as well as all living and extinct things. Noble pursuits, indeed.
