I got $30,000 when I tore my wrist working on a tow boat because of the Jones Act. Also there were tons of boats in West Virginia and Pittsburgh 15 years ago. My old employer had a fleet of 27 of them, with 600 barges. What changed? Coal is thankfully no longer our main energy source.
