He was my introduction to Mets fandom! It was kind of wild to be told by my father (who was around for 1969 and the wonders of the brief Gil Hodges era) that *this guy* was the manager, and he was definitely Trying His Very Best with the likes of Ellis Valentine, Dave Kingman, and George Foster lol.
