OMG. I feel your pain. Our (now shunned) neighbours cut down a 25 year old silver birch in March. I will never forgive them. And they are so LOUD all the time. But at least they didn’t burn stuff (Well. Not the tree, but the do conspicuously BBQ and shout instructions for us all to *enjoy*.

If you think someone’s going to cut down a valuable tree you can report it to the trees officer at the council. They’ll investigate and if they think it warrants it they will put a tree preservation order on it. This is how they work out where to put TPOs, if they get a tip off about a tree felling.

This was not in the category for a TPO, we did investigate. In fact I feel they were emboldened by council work on a nearby ash which DOES have a TPO.

That is a shame. Our trees officer is very keen on protecting as many trees as possible, which I approve of. People appeal against TPOs for silly reasons. Last week it was that their tenants wouldn’t want to sweep up leaves in the garden!
