And, of course, the picture just HAS to include holidaymakers on a beach, to give it the obligatory "Phew, What A Scorcher!" framing. I'm amazed the photographer didn't set them up with ice creams and knotted handkerchiefs.

To be sure, but having humans watching the effects of global warming from a distance serves to a) render the fires a mere spectacle to be gawped at; and b) reinforces the implied message that humanity's actions are somehow dissociated from the consequences of global warming. Arguably.
