I have been working this evening at uninstalling a wire shelf the builder put in my extra bedroom (my office) closet when this house was built around 20 years ago. These mounting bits are SATANIC. There is no logical way to remove them without them taking chunks out of your drywall.

Those are the worst. I don't even bother trying to remove them. I use a screwdriver and a hammer to tap them all the way through the drywall so the hole I need to patch is smaller.

The problem I’m having is that the plastic “ring” the screw sits in is actually on *top* of the mounting piece. So it’s not possible to shove the anchor into the wall, or at least not without a hacksaw from what I can tell. The screw head just turns forever and never backs out. It defeated me.

A Tincan

Use a heat gun to soften it an then slide something like a putty knife to pry it out. You may be able to pull the screw out after it’s softened with pliers?

These things are wack. It’s hard to get enough clearance just to pry the things out of the wall. I don’t think they designed them to be removed.
