As we prepare for the return of Ted Lasso, I'm reminded of that very bizarre but vehement "Ted and Rebecca are endgame" subset of the fandom, and wondering whether their belief was more or less a case of willful blindness than "The *real* Stranger Things finale is going to come out next week!"

I don't know. I think Carmy and Syd being a couple would have been awful, and I'm glad the show never went there. But I can at least squint and see why someone might have thought that was where we were headed, at least in s1. There was never *any* suggestion of it with Ted and Rebecca.

I feel like it's a result of people being trained to expect that kind of romance on other shows. (Whatever issues I have with TL, I have always been glad they never even came close to approaching this "endgame.")

I had heard about that before we started the show, and a few episodes in I remember thinking "either these two characters are going to change massively in the next 8 episodes or whoever told me that is insane."
