The complete lack of demand elasticity means prices can be driven very high indeed.

How were property costs managed? Did they pay business rates? Insurance? What % of total costs did wages comprise? I get the efficiency point.

I don’t have that data. I just don’t believe personally that it’s as easy as ending profits rather than raising the money some proactive way.

Fair enough, but after years of doing deep dives into cost structures I have a natural suspicion of high level figures. Goes with the territory I suppose.

And that’s sensible - I’m not saying there are no excessive profits. But I don’t think profits are the thing pushing the cost ever up
