You know what really went wrong with the V television series? They stopped resonating the voices. We all hated it when we were ten & I hate it now. Such a little thing. Also, V is extraordinarily direct in its disdain for the Reagan administration: a thinly veiled broadside against neoconservatism.

I always thought it was a thinly veiled broadside against Nazis. Yes, it uses the Visitors to imagine what Fascism could look like in America, but much like Andor, it’s not so much prescient as postscient. Most WWII vets were still alive and the idea that Fascism could take root was still farfetched

Kenneth Johnson, creator of this and Bionic Woman, Incredible Hulk and the short-lived but awesome Alien Nation series, is... underestimated? I know the term is over-used, but I wonder if it doesn't apply. Not to say that V is phenomenal - but I do love it near-unconditionally. Real DAY AFTER vibe.

It's a cautionary warning among other things about the rise of fascism and the surveillance state. Scientists almost immediately become the villains. The media falls right in line. Conspiracy theories become fact and rationale for the stripping of civil liberties. It really nails it. 1983, folks.

AMAZING - yeah, the first thing the Visitors do is essentially take over the industrial base, gin up fake video of "terrorist" strikes, take over the media with scary propaganda, and declare martial law. Lizard men in people suits.
