“… unrealistic assessments of our own capabilities set us up for failure when the problems of being old-old catch up with us.” Unrealistic self-assessment of driving skills is a problem. I'm part of this aging demographic. It’s safer for me to bicycle/walk, but we need more walk/bike/transit infra!

The demographic reality is inescapable: We are going to have millions more older drivers with diminishing capabilities, in cars that are too big and too dangerous for everyone around them, with few satisfactory alternatives to driving. It will not end well.
