I am genuinely curious what 'new and different understandings" they think having to do a literature review prevents them from having? Same energy as when tech bros claim "unburdened by the past, I will revolutionize human mobility", but they just describe a bus.
I'm all onboard with Ahmed's "citations are political" stance but this seems like .... like a clever grad student trying to get out of writing a lit review for a methods class
Yeah, if someone asked Bourdieu if academic literature reviews were a site of struggle, he'd shrug & say of course. When it came to symbolic violence he was hardly a pacifist. Though its possible an interesting empirical study could come from it, it isn't a deep insight by itself.
I can’t believe this. I was just thinking how glad I was having fled Twitter to not be confronted with sociologists making fun of philosophy. But here you are. Good thing is, I have had time to think and now I’m ready for repartee on any insult. Give it your best.
Yeah chuckled at that part. Very unwitting how it’s laid out explicitly in every grant application and most courses. No one knew before they were building on prior knowledge and not divining something from the depths of gut feelings.
