(Not to say it was impossible; my mother's hometown, Cayey, according to her, were basically the equivalent of Canada in that they had fads or hobbies that were more accepting of ~the Japanese thing~ than in the capital, in the 60s-80s. But Puerto Rico in general was different then...)
