yes! for anyone out there who's having antidepressant trouble, there are many categories of them and it's worth the effort to find the right fit.

i’ve been on them seemingly successfully for prob 10 years but might have to look into switching

Absolutely worth looking into. Doctors often prescribe based on minimizing possible side effects, understandably. But I really benefited from the recommendations of my therapist based on his better understanding of my actual psychological needs. There's also been many innovations in those 10 years!

our bodies change as well...or so they tell me. haha. actually, i've struggled wi rapid-cycling manic depression & adhd all my life, & if i'm taking anti-manics (lamotrigine) i dont need additional antidepressants, but i hate the anti-manics & havent been taking them. so far so good.

"based on minimizing possible side effects" oh my g-d. yeah. back in the day, the side effects were worse than the illness, so i simply wouldnt keep taking them. the tricyclic antidepressants, lithium, horrible. but i heard that the tricyclics actually worked better, just hideous side effects.

the tricyclics--triavil, elavil--did something bad to my eyes. i couldnt focus, everything blurry, i kept trying to move the book to better "location" but nothing worked. & i was a draftsman, so i couldnt see well enough to work. drymouth so bad i needed medication for ThAt. depressed>? so what haha

Mirtazapine, a tetracyclic, was practically magic (for me) for anxiety and depression, but it made me so hungry it became a problem. Not just the weight gain—which was NUTS—but a constant preoccupation with carb-heavy food. Had to stop taking it.

i didnt take them for long bx of the side effects, which were so horrible i was merely distracted from the depression.! all the trial & error for years. finally lamotrigine, works on depression as well as the manic phases. i didnt notice any but the primary issue...it stifles my creative mind.

My main symptoms were appetite loss and insomnia when I went on Mirtazapine. I was basically taking it for the side effects :-)

That one made me gain 10 lbs in a month. Idk if it helped otherwise bc too busy crying that clothes didn’t fit after being same size for 20 yrs. I even made sure to focus on portion control & drinking lots of water. Lost 11 lbs after stopping rx, changing nothing food-related. I’m still mad abt it!

It was extremely upsetting to suddenly not fit in my clothes so quickly! And this was back when I was wearing office clothes, which are not very forgiving.
