Thank you for saying this. If the WHCA has any courage remaining, it would drive a stake in the heart in the idea of inviting Presidents to future dinners or not having the event at all.

This! It wasn’t about being funny -it was a power flex. His only objective in that room was to get journalists to bend the knee and I guarantee he was DELIGHTED with the outcome.

Yep. Nobody stood up and said, "Mr. President? How do you respond to the widespread knowledge that you are stupid and racist and a felon and a child-rapist and greedy and you smell bad?" Any version of that would have been valid. Silence? Was NOT.

Literally every person in that room had a chance to stand up and loudly proclaim "This guy is just a lying asshole" then walk out. Missed their chance to become a legend. The mediocrity of limited vision.

I agree with this post. My question though, is what other option is there. (Obviously press standing up for itself is one thing.) Is there an alternative to the WH press dinner? Just dissacociate?

The press, if they had any balls, would not have had this dinner or should have all walked out on him as an insult.

Did anyone stand up and leave at any time? I'm still waiting for a female journalist to slap his face when he makes a demeaning remark to her face. Sure, she'd be arrested, but she would be a national hero.
