Not a question we can clearly parse from the perspective of Ancient Greeks because we're too far removed and the 'Ancient Greeks" Homer (if he even existed) was writing about were not one single society or even point in time.
But using the Odyssey, Nolan effectively asks the question "what if we were so convinced of our own cleverness that only in retrospect did we realize what damage we were doing?"
I saw it as a film about how many ways the world has to show one man he's not the hero he thinks he is before he finally gets it, and what damage that does to the whole society in the meantime.
