For the record, I'd love another Odyssey adaptation that leans harder into "charming trickster adventurer slutting/lying/bumbling around a Mediterranean full of gods and monsters," and I think it's genuinely weird the only version of that which even vaguely exists is a 2-part Hallmark miniseries

I think a proper multi-season adaptation of "Song of Achilles" and "Circe" with the same production team and Odysseus throughout could get there, and I think Apple TV can deliver this for us

That was not and should not have been the movie that Nolan made, but someone else is free to try their hand at it

A mostly straight up, 100% adaption maintaining the themes of the original would be cool! It's also cool that the world biggest director wanted to do something else and add his own modern spin! All things done well with care and great craft can be cool, that's what we've learned.

alas this movie is such a rousing success it’ll be at least a generation before anyone else gets a free hand for more Homer (as we have seen with dinosaurs and Jurassic Park, in your own wheelhouse)

While we are in this Greek Mythology moment, may I remind you that Emma Thompson is adapting Pat Barker’s take on The Iliad, and she’s struggled to get it made bc the focus on what acts of war against women and survival thereafter actually look like (the core of Barker’s narrative) is too intense.
