I have a lot of sympathy for the people in Iran, but I think it should be up to them what happens, and I do not trust US to keep our grubby hands out of the process.

I just worry that a lot of people think Trump is great because he'll knock out the dictatorship, but might not see what'll happen next. Then again, I can't see either. I just think I have enough American sense not to trust that guy or anyone in his employ. But one must hope and dignity of risk...

His MAGA supporters think he's great, but that's not the sentiment - far from it - of the rest of the country.

JFC. Iraq isn't that old. Did Iraqi's invite the US to get rid of their dictator? Did they welcome the troops as liberators? Did they embrace the provisional government and proceeded to establish a democracy? Fucking hell no. The dictator kept the various religious sects from killing each other. 1/2

2/2 Imagine a country that went from an oppressive authoritarian ruler (installed by the US, btw) to an extremist religious sect, likely percolated by decades of oppression, being invaded by the same clowns that pushed the authoritarian on them. What do you think will happen? Vietnam II? Worse?

Good questions. Per joke by @davekarpf.bsky.social , you could watch this with a bucket of popcorn like a total polisci psychopath. Or you could be a human being. I'm not entirely sure which I am sometimes. Weirdly some Iranians I'm seeing seem vaguely optimistic. "No way but up," perhaps.

Americans have our own Ayatollah/cult leader to depose.
