Sony wants to abandon fans? Let's give them a small taste of their own medicine! Together with other creators we call for a 1 week #PSBlackout in August. No logins, no play sessions, no purchases on any of Sony's platforms.

“No logins, play sessions or purchases on any of Sony’s platforms” So like, you’re basically telling people to not even touch their PS3’s or below assuming they have one? You are aware that this “boycott” would be equally effective if you just told people to not touch their PS5’s right?

Also, I'd like to point asking to boycott all of Sony's products, you are aware of how many products Sony has their hands in, right? 60-70% of the tech we use today has their chips

Personally I'd say it's fine to play pre-existing Sony purchases, just like, don't buy any more, and maybe play/use/etc. them offline for a week if you can.

Granted I don't know your specific circumstances, and I personally don't use any live service or online games so it's possible I'm misinterpreting what they're saying. Are you talking about an ongoing subscription to FFXIV or something along those lines?

He is asking for nothing to be played on any of those platforms, no new purchases, no single player games, etc turn off all Sony related products for the entire week during one of the busiest weeks in gaming for August August 26th to 30th is Gamescom FYI

It is about not registering any activity in Sony servers, whether it is from playing a PS game (you can play a game on Playstation or PC, but without online), or buying anything on the PS Store. If you already had a game, nobody is telling you not to play, just "don't tell Sony about your deed."

That’s where I fundamentally disagree with DIP’s whole boycott. It’s good and all to say “do not purchase anything and play offline where possible during this period” but saying that people should just cut off all usage of *all* Sony related stuff for that week is asinine.

I personally am not reading their post that way, but as someone who already doesn't play any online games and almost never conencts to the internet on my own consoles, it's possible I'm misunderstanding something here 😵‍💫 But yeah, you definitely don't need to go that far for sure.

It’s the “no play sessions” and “on any of Sony’s platforms” parts that have me reading it in that manner. Specifically saying “any” of them implies that they’re referencing any PlayStation or even anything Sony related. Even the ones that have no online function in a modern sense.

Oh I see now. I don't usually differentiate "play offline" and "don't play at all" since, in my mind, there's no functional difference for something like this, since it's not like Sony or DIP or anyone else can tell. Sorry for the confusion.
