The thing that keeps getting me about all the pieces fretting about Bluesky being too insular is that the argument seems to be that those of us who are most likely to be abused by the right (BIPOC people, trans people, queer people, etc) must put up with being abused for the sake of public discourse

It’s such a self-serving definition of insular too. I follow shark biologists, comic book artists, medieval historians, and homeschoolers, but that’s an echo chamber unless I’m following conservative pundits and terfs? Give me a break.

I think the same way about leftists who claim BlueSky is boring because everyone agrees too much. How? Where? 🫨🙄 Maybe they only see 2 accounts on their timeline feed?

I assume people chatting amiably about their differences without name calling means nobody disagrees. If there aren’t threats of violence is it really discourse?

And that’s the other thing… the people hand-wringing about “echo chambers” seem to only focus on accounts from the US. But this site is GLOBAL! You can have an entire robust feed that’s neither in English nor American, if you want! There’s tons of accounts on here that don’t care about US issues.
