Upstairs is a normal department store. Downstairs is a nice retail space but filled with boxed appliances like a warehouse. Though clean and neat. One young man was sitting quietly at a register. People were passing through, but not much purchasing. I bought shorts and a tee shirt for cheap!

Like in the video, it was strangely quiet. The rest of the giant mall also seems to by struggling, but the Sears was the most quiet of all the stores.

I guess what struck me most is that while everything is pleasant, there's a home made quality to it. Nicely executed but just a touch off design wise. Like if a mom and pop appliance store put a lot of effort into getting signage printed at Staples. Or like a made up store in a movie. Or in a dream.

I didn’t know there’s still we’re Sears stores. I remember when the giant Sears and JCPenney catalogs would come at Christmas time and my kids would circle things and write comments and make a long lists

The neighbor kids and I lived for the Christmas catalogue. Their dad worked at the Sears auto center, so every appliance they had was a Kenmore. It messed with my brain b/c the dad's first name was Ken. 😀

I wonder what's keeping this store open? I was in there for about a half hour and I seemed to be the only person buying anything. $22.00 for a tee shirt and shorts. I checked the price for the brand and they are twice that on Amazon. They did have a ton of appliances, so maybe they live off that?

Long after the local mall Sears closed a huge Sears tool & appliance store opened nearby. It didn’t last long. I do miss those dog-eared catalogs though. TBH I also miss the phone book. Yeah you can look stuff up on the web, but can you use your phone to prop up a too-short kid at the table?

I remember that video. My mom, seamstress daughter of a professional seamstress, made an upholstered zipper case that fit two catalogs or phone books so the smallest child would have a comfortable and not slippery seat. Homemade highchair.
