But not Odysseus who was blameless and told them not to do it and did not partake. Zeus makes sure to miss him with the bolts. (the actual scene in the poem with the mooing twitching meat is really freaky and I would have liked to see them use that material in the movie)

Agreed - but I think doing that would have cut to close to Circe?

I think they were going for a specific vibe - have the mundane be scary. bsky.app/profile/best...

I think it sort of worked - especially because it let them play with the audience expectations during Thrinacia (which used Orphic imagery for the mundane activity of "eating a burger"). But I was definitely somewhat disappointed during the scene itself.
