A week to remember Started with speaking at an amazing event to mark the 50th anniversary of the summer of 1976, including presenting new climate stripes for summer in UK regions. Ironically, a red heatwave warning was issued during the event. And the PM resigned too.

The sad thing is that in 50 year's time, people are unlikely to remember 2026 because it will be a classed as a fairly normal year by then.

They’ll more likely be reminiscing about how great it was back then, and angry as f*ck about why the majority of politicians and the public at large thought net zero was just ‘woke’ nonsense, and that there were more important things to worry about - like who’s allowed to use what toilet.

At the same event, a plausible future UK weather forecast was presented, set in 2056 in a world approaching 2.5°C above pre-industrial levels. There are 9 consecutive days over 40°C in this heatwave, peaking at a devastating 45°C. (Thanks to @jamespope10.bsky.social for developing the forecast)
