Yeah, getting policy right is only half the battle. Mamdani also just makes me feel good. For such a social job, it's remarkable how bad left/progressive politicians are at this.

I don't think it's an ideological thing so much as just a rare thing. As I look across the spectrum and levels of government in Canada, charisma is in incredibly rare supply.

While that is true too, there can't be someone less charismatic and convincing than Pierre Poilievre trying to sound tough and "alpha male" while looking like Milhouse from The Simpsons. Is there some anti-charisma selection mechanism?
