I think there is a real reason why a lot of older creators fall into the AI usage trap. It often happens to creators who were ahead of their time with technology/style in the past, and think this is their chance to regain the edge, rejoin the young folks, be able to complete another project quickly.

That's honestly a really good point, I also have a feeling they might just not be educated on the negative aspects or consequences of it as well. Or worse, they do know how bad it is but think that it's worth doing it anyway..

So, when I see another creator announcing they're into AI, my first thought is not "noooo my goat is washed" but "yeah, that makes sense they would wanna be up on that". It's one of the most sinister things about it, I think.

I'm almost 40 now, so I've experienced a bit of the seductive negative self-talk thought train of "everyone's blowing past me. I'm losing my touch. I feel disconnected from the new movements." It goes thru my mind and I don't engage. But I see how one could see that route as an escape from that

Man seeing Timbaland of all do what he did actually spun me. But your explanation was the conclusion I came to. But I also got pissed because, for a lot of these guys they already had their really great time in the sun, so wtf man 😭

There's an interview with Inio Asano that came out recently where he talked about how he was using Unreal Engine to modelize the world he wants to draw, which is really cool. But then it moved on to talking about AI and he said something to the effect of "I don't get why its not generally allowed-

by manga editors right now. If they were to lift the restrictions, i would use AI to help me with creating the scenes i want in UE cuz it'd make it go a lot faster." In a sense i see the logic thats made it come to that thought, but it still stings that he'd be down on that

Iunno. I agree (and same), but the way I've countered that is to follow lotta young folks and Heavily weight what they say, and any time I'm feeling out of pocket I assume the kids have the right of it. And the kids fuckin haaaate this shit. So any old dudes in that bucket are, at least, idiots. 😭

Also, as you get more familiar with a subject, you're able to identify aspects of it you find engaging (modeling, optimization), and aspects that feel like a slog every time (don't get me started on UV unwrapping or lightmaps). "I'll just use it for the boring parts" is a dangerous siren call.

ive been singing this tune for awhile, prob much to my followers’ fatigue LOL.. it’s only being preached about by people outside the community and established names who’ve lost relevance, biggest telltale that it has no real value for creators. purely a branding mechanism

Well, I hope you continue don't let that feeling get you too bogged down. I'm almost 40 myself, and just NOW starting my journey into developing my drawing skills. You are one the best artist I know of. Hang in there.

I'm with you on this. It's sad but they probably have some grifters in their ear and other old guys that don't get the technology. They may realize how it flattens creativity after using it for awhile but by then their endorsement will already be out there.

Yeah, absolutely. I think it's probably also easier for someone in that position to default to seeing AI as just another new technology like others they've seen over their careers, and have a harder time understanding why people think of this differently from other technological advancements.
