I get it, people love books for a reason, book burnings/binnings are associated with censorship. But also books are physical objects with a lifetime and sometimes that lifetime comes to an end. You can't just keep a moldy, falling apart book forever when no one even wants to read it

Anyone who's ever worked at a public library has the experience of seeing people get furious at books being destroyed when they're weeded from the collection. If you ask people if they *want* the moldy, falling-apart books the answer is usually no. But they don't want them thrown out either.
