So Concacaf sides with Uefa. FIFA's financial power grab is done. What's funny is Infantino would probably have just about got away with this if it wasn't for the Balogun thing. As i said at the time, that scared the absolute shit out of the European FAs. So they instantly closed ranks on this.

interesting to me that Infantino has alienated Uefa so catastrophically when he was Uefa's head prior to running Fifa. Blatter was European but won by beating the Uefa chief, while Havelange was famously the Not Europe candidate

Club World Cup has a lot to do with it IMV. UEFA hate it as it is FIFA's way of muscling in on the Champions League. Clubs did too until silenced by Saudi money improving balance sheets. That's where start seeing FIFA as a dangerous rival (which was in part why the Balogun reaction was so strong).

I mean they would, the relationship with FIFA has always been uneasy, and long viewed with suspicion. But it would be a negotiation, rather than a hard "no". Whereas the CWC is the moment saw where Infantino wants to go by grabbing power and financial clout, and wants to use cash to marginalise UEFA

Genuinely, it’s structural. The big five leagues are the money printing machine that except for 6 weeks every 4 weeks subsidies everyone else/makes it impossible for everyone else to compete depending on perspective, it will always have an uneasy relationship with FIFA

Yeah, FIFA are gearing up to have more tournaments and to shrink the calendar for domestic leagues, may as well have the fight now when they are strong and FIFA has very little leverage.
