Always. The third position is always actually NIMBY

A MIMBY – maybe in my back yard?

“Yes, build! After thorough community review, meeting highest environmental standards, with guaranteed affordability and no displacement of minority populations….”

I agree in principle, but there are people who call themselves "PHIMBY". PH stands for Public Housing, and they think that the State or the City should be allowed to build big, just not private developers

NIMBY with a carveout for fantasy scenarios is just a NIMBY who wants to be leftier than thou

"That's a NIMBY. We count those."

I saw a post the other day about how there would be no NIMBYs in leftist spaces, because those are all about community and cooperation. I'm pretty sure whoever said that is a "secret third thing" (NIMBY) who has never met people in leftist spaces.

SNIMBY (secretly NIMBY)

NIMBY but you're not allowed to be mad at me for it

I like to think I’m a GIMBY (“grudgingly in my back yard”) for things that are useful but not necessarily great to be right next to, and a NIABY (“not in anybody’s back yard”) when it comes to things like the toxic sludge factory.

(taps the sign)

I'm not a NIMBY. I support housing. I just think every project deserves a comprehensive review, a supplemental review, and a review of the review. Every proposal raises unique questions requiring another community input process.

It's a YIYBY. Yes in your back yard.
