The academic space she came from is … well let’s just say Oxbridge makes Harvard look deeply egalitarian. So in context, she’s comparatively like a rabid leftist.

Having grown up with UK classism, it ironically makes me more sympathetic because I can see how much she’s stepping out of what she was trained for and mostly I want to be encouraging about that because the intention is there

I remember being awed by it as a child and then going back as an adult after graduating from Harvard and realizing how much worse it was than Harvard, which is really saying something

I had a British friend from NW London who went to Princeton then back to London to found a startup with a dude who hung out at Oxford and whose parents taught there, and the slapfighting about who was more refined was over the top. But neither of them could use fucking cutlery so fuck those boys.

Are you sure that person was from NW? What part? I suppose Hampstead counts … but my NW was Kilburn and quite working class

Or maybe not as far... My London Geography is very much nonexistent. I lived it Plumstead and Hackney, anything north of the river was exotic...
